Has anyone ever gone to one of these? I see that it’s coming to Columbus on 8/20 and 8/21 and was wondering if it would be worth the trip to take my six year old.
I never heard of it, but Ben Good is taking his GBC to Chicago (Schaumburg, IL) next week for http://brickworld.com/convention/
My understanding is that BU is another fan convention, similar to BW, Philly Brickfest, BFVA/NE/NJ/AL. So it is probably somewhat different from KidsFest. But if your son loves Lego creations, it woulf be the closest Fan Convention to us (beating out BFVA by about an hour).

Yeah, definitely not sure what to expect from BrickUniverse, but it at least seemed marketed as family friendly. I completely forgot to include the URL too: http://www.brickuniverse.org/#!colombus/kgheo.
But, I definitely don’t like the idea of missing the LUG birthday party!
It’s very family friendly. I’ve exhibited MOCs at BrickUniverse events in Dallas and Raleigh. The public days offer considerably more themed play areas than other events – instead of just one or two “Stay and Play” type areas, there have separate ones for “Friends”, “Star Wars”, and “Architecture”, as well as the monochrome sort you see at Kids Fest events and the common DUPLO play area. There are also non-LEGO activities (an inflatable bounce house of some sort and caricature airbrush artists) as well as public-facing seminars about LEGO.
If you do want to exhibit MOCs there, they’ll wave your registration fee for the full three day event (yes, note that this is a “convention” but it only runs from Friday to Sunday).
