I have received and accepted an invitation from Cranberry Township to participate in its First Night event on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 pm. We will be in the New Council Chambers and have approximately the same available space (size-wise) as we have had in the past.

First Night is the kickoff to the Christmas season and is supposed to be the first night that Santa appears. This is an easy event for us (although we normally have 1000+ people attend) and is themed for Christmas, although we have broad latitude for display options – anything Christmas/Winter related works.

I will create a signup event shortly. Thank you.

Edit: The event has been created here – https://www.steelcitylug.com/events/?op=viewshifts&event_id=30

I’ll participate in some way shape and form. May mean I have someone else set up stuff for me and then I’ll join later on to staff/tear down.

I might show up just to hang out.

Subbed and signed up! As Tim said this is an easy event and would be a good one for any new members who want to “dip their toe in the display waters”!!

Note to @timf, we now have the LUG stanchions that we should use instead of having to “string the lights” like we have in the past!

@rcgrier3406 or we string the lights on the stanchions for extra holiday festivity! 😀

Be sure to sign up on the Events page (I see that Bob already did).

Hey @timf , this seems cool. What type of support are you looking for in this event. Would it be set up / tear down, bring a MOC, etc? My first LUG event was the 2024 Q3 business meeting, so wanted to know what you would want us to do at this opportunity.

@octankragle14 Most people bring MOCs (usually Christmas/holiday themed) but you are welcome to just come and hang out. It’s very low key although we get a fair number of people coming in to see the display.

Here are a few pics from past events to give you an idea:

Thanks for the details Tim. Sounds like a cool event and signed up. I plan to come and hang out (as I don’t think I would have a great MOC ready for display by that time), but in the meantime let me know what I can do to assist.

Of course, had to choose the name / avatar to make sure everything is awesome

Set up is normally Friday afternoon with the event running from approximately 6:00-8:00 pm. Tear down is immediately after so the entire event from set up to tear down is approximately 6 hours or so. As soon as I have the specific times from the Township, I will post that information here. Thank you.

Anne and I are planning to attend and display. So @timf, are you going to plan a layout? This could be my trial run for Brickfair, mostly determining what can fit in the car.

@greg there is no solid plan. We’ll just set up some tables and fit everything we can. But if you have some fixed dimensions, let me know and I can plan accordingly (that goes for everyone planning to come – let me know if you have a fixed space need).

Tim, I’m not sure exactly yet, but somewhere between a 1/4 to a half of a table. My things are on the smaller side and we could spread them throughout if we have gaps.

I’ll bring my Christmas Farmhouse MOC (4 baseplates, 2×2 pattern) for sure. I can bring other non-Christmas stuff to help fill out table space if need be.

Th Cranberry event is now less than two weeks away!!! I am working on a full table display, however, other than the abominable snowman, and maybe the LEGO factory, the buildings that I have are kind of boring … my display needs more action!

I started to stage a Chima Mammoth vs. Sabertooth vs. Eagle Interceptor showdown in the middle of the North Pole but the idea was vetoed by Mrs. Claus. She said I could use them somewhere else, but not in the winter village. 🙁 Anyone have ideas for making an epic Chima battle … maybe with an Alps backdrop?

@timf how does the new conference room look? Will we be in the middle of the room? and possibly against a wall?

Here is a small glimpse of the new conference room. It is quite large, has windows facing facing the new “Great Lawn” space and in keeping with Cranberry tradition is irregularly shaped. I imagine we can do a loop of table displays similar to past displays in the larger open area. The only thing I am for sure bringing is the new gift MOC I made. Though I may have to pass it off to someone beforehand and join to staff/teardown later.

I completely forgot about my Christmas ornaments. I bought a small tabletop tree to put them on. So I just need a little extra space for that. I’ll also bring additional filler that we can add as needed.

@tbrown00m thank you for posting that picture. I’ve not been at the Municipal Center since the Council Chambers were completed.

To answer Greg’s question, we’ll probably try to do a three-sided display but may end up with four-sided if there is room (with us all in the middle).

@greg the ones we’ve used before were 8 feet tables (30 inch depth). I’m not sure if they have new tables now or just kept the same ones. I’m hoping for some new ones since the old ones were getting old and were no longer very level.
