Join Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) professor and Star Wars aficionado, Yoosuf Picard, on an exploration of the science behind the Star Wars universe. Prof. Picard will review the basic science of lasers and plasma, and lead activities exploring how these concepts could lead to a real light saber. Kyber crystals will be provided; no prior Jedi training required. We will also explore how Star Wars technologies (blasters, twin-ion engines, jump drives, ion cannons, etc.) compare to existing, real-world technologies.
Disclaimer: Midichlorians will not be discussed.

Not confused. I would expect Professor “Picard” to be all about Star Trek. Perhaps this should be taught by a Professor Skywalker (I’ll nominate Kenny “Sky” Walker who played in the NBA from 1986 through 1993 for the Knicks and the Bullets and won the 1989 NBA Slam Dunk Competition – I’m not sure of his academic credentials, however).
