an airship.I was trying to create patterns with sideways cheese slopes … it required a lot of patience! For a hot minute I abandoned the real LEGO parts and tried to experiment virtually with this idea in LEGO Studio, but Studio was clearly not meant for things that that don’t click into place.
Anyway, I was trying to create a Mexican design, but my first attempt looked more like an Amish quilt! 😛 With modifications, I got closer to mesoamerican, but the pattern really broke down as it approached the square boundary.

Those are looking good! You may want to check out Katie Walker’s work. She does plenty of cheese work and may provide some inspiration.
I looked at Katie Walker’s mosaic wizardy. It is mind-blowing that she gets everything to work out around the edges. I might try sideways slopes instead.
The octagonal baseplates and the cheese mosaic did not get incorporated into my latest project, however I found finally discovered a use for Friends minifigs. 🙂
Elements of this MOC are drawn from the Pixar movie, Coco, which centers around the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos. The central building is a shrine to the Coco character Ernesto de la Cruz, (think mexican Elvis.) The spark for this project was picking up mariachis at the LEGO store’s build-a-minifig station. Shout out to @paulamalu!
Yesterday I rebuilt the Pizzeria that I created some twenty years ago, thanks to infrastructure upgrade grant money from the Inflation Reduction Act.
I am proud to say that I achieved a more sophisticated level of boring … and this one actually has pizza!

Not being familiar with that set, I’m guessing the one on the left is the mirror build since it does not have the “Home Sweet Home” welcome mat. Nicely done!
I found out that I was excommunicated from the Winter Village facebook group this past year but I did not receive an explanation of why.
I had received a prize from their building competition in January for making a church that was converted to a coffee shop, but after posting my Reindeer Stable idea as part of a LEGO gwp contest in April I was apparently banned. Maybe one of the Admins has a PETA membership and they don’t approve of using animals as domestic servants, even if its only once a year.
