Flight leaves Tuesday morning. Would I be able to pick him up sometime Sunday or Monday afternoon?

Should be able to, as long as he fits in my carry-on

Its been a very busy past few months since Brickfest. Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner. Long story short, I haven’t really had time to do much with the lighthouse since then. To answer your questions: I have no idea how I’ll do either of those. I think the lighthouse will be put on the backburner for a little while. This was a huge project, and I’d like to do a few smaller ones to refresh myself a bit before I get back into this one.

Anywhere to put that where more eyes in the LUG can see it?

We had a fellow from the Tribune Review interview @Jason Middaugh and myself on the LUG. Hopefully there will be an article featuring the LUG soon

Apologies for not making it today. Will be there ~7:45 to get early door access. The lighthouse’s setup isn’t exactly trivial. The way I look at it, if setup drags past 9am for the lighthouse people will get a show on how a model like that is put together.

I’d say our best bet is to just freestyle the base. The intention way in the future is to replicate the actual base of the lighthouse today, but I think it’d be more fun to just be creative for brickfest

Lighthouse sits on a 48×48 baseplate, 58 inches tall, minifig scale. It is not raised. The only feasible way I can see to raise the lighthouse under the current time constraints is to place the entire base plate onto to something. Perhaps something that’s easier, and possibly more accurate, is to build a sand dune barrier between the sand and grass

I’ll be bringing my lighthouse model, but the base is looking a little bare. If anyone wants to bring any beach related lego items feel free to do so. I think it could be fun to have a small beach collaboration at the base of the lighthouse

I walked past the model a few days ago and slipped on the base plate, causing the entire model to suddenly jerk about 8 inches to the side. Somehow it didn’t fall over or suffer any significant damage.

Currently stands at 58 inches tall. I’d love to expand the footprint, but there’s no way it’d be done in time for brickfest.

I guess the only thing of note is to counteract any weight distribution problems the structure might have. The lighthouse is very top heavy, so I had to make the base and central support structure wide enough and strong enough for it to take the weight of the top parts instead of relying on the round walls to

Almost ready for Brickfest. Might add some minifigs or other fun things to the base

I should be good to do 9/11 and 9/12. Just wanna double check that I don’t have to have tickets in order to be there.

I will be bringing my lighthouse then. Just ordered all the parts I need to finish it. Will the meeting on 8/28 cover what we need to do for setup?

Not sure how appropriate it is for the theme of the show, but I’d be willing to bring my model of Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Not exactly Pittsburgh themed, but I suppose it’s worth bringing up as a suggestion since it’s all I have. Given it’s about mini-figure scale, it’s about 4.5-5ft tall and takes up the space of about a 48×48 baseplate. Also, given the timeframe it would be more of a prototype/barely finished since I’d still need to complete the glass room on top. Just a suggestion

The plan is to have windows, a lawn, and a rotating beacon way in the future. For now, I just want a minimum viable model assembled.

UPDATE: Tower is fully assembled for the first time. I’ve found narrowing round towers are EXTREMELY difficult. At the moment it isn’t too stable, so more work will be done to shore up the inner core. Next up is finishing up the design of the lantern room.

Also some other things I’d like to do once I get a “first draft” of the tower done: adding windows on the tower, adding the ticket booth and fence, adding a rotating beacon in the lantern room with the proper characteristic (flash of light every 7.5 seconds). I’d like to get a minimum base version of the model done before adding in nice-to-haves.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, but moving it is hairy to say the least. It’ll have to be moved off the dining room table since it’ll become too tall to work on as soon as I add the next piece of the spiral

At the moment it’s fragile at best. Getting the spiral of one section to line up with the next is turning out to be tricky
